McDonald’s CEO Faces Backlash for Eating on Camera

Chris Kempczinski, the CEO of McDonald’s, is once again under fire for eating while being filmed. This time, his chicken nugget bite during an interview stirred even more criticism than a previous burger-related incident. The hosts of Fox & Friends were quick to remind Brian Kilmeade of his own decision to avoid eating on camera.

A recent report assessing restaurant performance in the U.S. revealed that McDonald’s remains the first choice that comes to mind for many consumers when thinking about fast food, despite other brands scoring higher in terms of burger quality.

The “Best Bites 2026: Ranking of U.S. Restaurant Brands” study, conducted by the market research group YouGov, aimed to find out which restaurant brands are favored by American adults. Through surveys focused on food quality and personal dining preferences, interesting results emerged.

Ashley Brown, a senior director at YouGov, noted that, “Even if it ranks lower than others for the best-tasting burger, McDonald’s is still the go-to fast food choice for many Americans.” Notably, the chain maintains a clear lead when it comes to the perception of serving the best french fries.

The survey indicated that McDonald’s received 39.6% of votes for being the most considered fast food choice, surpassing Chick-fil-A at 35.5% and Wendy’s at 33.2%. Interestingly, McDonald’s appealed to both men and women across several age demographics, although older consumers (65 and up) preferred Wendy’s.

The report also ranked the best burger, sandwich, and taco spots. In terms of burgers, Five Guys took the top position followed closely by Burger King, with In-N-Out Burger in third place. Wendy’s came fourth, and McDonald’s settled for fifth. Subway was deemed the best for deli sandwiches, and Taco Bell claimed the top spot for tacos and burritos.

When it comes to fries, McDonald’s won decisively with 39.2% of the votes, while Five Guys trailed far behind with only 9%. In terms of chicken, Chick-fil-A’s popularity soared, earning it the top rank. As for pizzas, Pizza Hut was the clear favorite.

Interestingly, while Chick-fil-A was rated highest for quality, McDonald’s didn’t appear in the top ten. Wendy’s earned recognition for the best value, followed by McDonald’s in eighth place.

Insights from the YouGov report noted that about two-thirds of Americans buy fast food at least once a month, with approximately 30% enjoying it weekly. Men comprised 55% of frequent fast food consumers, contrasting with 45% women, and most were under 45 years old.

For many, value and discounts are key motivators for frequenting fast food places. It’s also worth noting that women seem more inclined to customize menu items, whereas men prefer 24-hour service and self-serve drink stations.

McDonald’s attributes its robust popularity to a commitment to quality and the use of genuine ingredients. Their focus on evolving the menu to suit modern preferences has also played a significant role in their enduring appeal.

This report represents an interesting snapshot of fast food consumption trends, reflecting the varied tastes and preferences of American diners.
