Investigation Launched for Violent Crime Suspect
A joint investigation involving multiple agencies is currently focused on a 22-year-old suspect connected to a series of violent incidents across state lines. These include shootings on a highway near Arrowhead Stadium during the FIFA World Cup and confrontations with law enforcement.
The FBI’s Kansas City Field Office has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the capture of Oscar Sanchez Muñoz. Authorities describe him as a white Hispanic male, weighing roughly 184 pounds.
Standing at 5 feet 8 inches, Sanchez Muñoz has brown hair and eyes, and a tattoo on his right forearm. Officials are urging the public to consider him “armed and dangerous.”
Recent Violence and Arrest Warrant
The search for Sanchez Muñoz is in response to several violent episodes occurring in Kansas and Missouri. An arrest warrant was issued for him on Tuesday after he allegedly fired shots at a car in Wyandotte County, Kansas, on June 11. Along with a weapons charge, he also has an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault in the same county, secured by a $100,000 bail.
The Kansas City Police Department suspects that Sanchez Muñoz was also involved in five shootings on Tuesday night along Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri, quite close to Arrowhead Stadium.
Tragically, one person was killed in the shooting, and another sustained serious injuries. Notably, an Uber driver was shot in the leg while taking fans to a World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria.
Law enforcement mentions a violent standoff that took place overnight in Independence, Missouri, which concluded with a house fire. On Wednesday morning, after the fire was out and the property declared safe, investigators, along with a K-9 unit and the Missouri State Fire Marshal, thoroughly searched but did not find Sanchez Muñoz.
In a notable development, authorities did manage to recover a vehicle tied to the shooting that occurred on Tuesday night. However, there has been no disclosure of a potential motive as of Saturday afternoon.
The FBI and the Kansas City Police Department are urging the public to stay alert. If anyone sees Sanchez Muñoz, is advised to call 911 immediately. Additionally, anyone with information regarding his location is encouraged to also contact their local FBI office or visit a specific crime tip website.
