Hurricanes Celebrate Stanley Cup Win in Raleigh
The Stanley Cup made its way through the streets of Raleigh on Saturday, marking its first appearance there since 2006 following the Carolina Hurricanes’ impressive playoff journey.
They powered through the first two rounds, decisively defeating both the Ottawa Senators and the Philadelphia Flyers. Their sole setback came in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Montreal Canadiens during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. But—get this—they turned things around, winning the next four games and then taking down the Las Vegas Golden Knights in six games to clinch the Cup. Most of those games were unforgettable.
Now, after all that hard work, a celebration was definitely in order. Raleigh has really embraced its identity as a hockey town lately, and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement.
That parade? It was just the start of the festivities. When the team took to the stage, things got even better.
One standout moment was when GM Eric Tarski mentioned how grateful some players were for being brought to Carolina. Notably, veteran enforcer Nick DesLauriers, acquired from Philadelphia at the trade deadline, was highlighted. He might’ve only played in seven regular season games and one postseason game, but his impact, characterized by his locker room presence and passion on the ice, earned him a two-year contract extension.
Big congratulations to Nic DesLauriers! Even though I will miss seeing him in orange and black.
It was a warm and humid day, hence some players opted to remove their jackets to stay cool. On stage, a few decided to pull head coach Rod Brind’Amour into the fun. Rod still looks like he could suit up, which is kind of nuts. And it’s really surprising he hasn’t made the Hall of Fame yet.
Oh, and was that Michelob Ultra his choice? Seems like a solid pick—low-carb, low-calorie beer that’s easy to enjoy.
It appears the Canes are already looking ahead to next season…
