Ex-MMA Fighter Takes Down Alleged Child Predator

A mixed martial arts fighter known for his work in uncovering potential child predators has reportedly apprehended another suspect in South Florida. Dustin Lampros, the founder of 561 Predator Catchers, allegedly posed online as a 13-year-old boy, according to a court report from Delray Beach Police.

In his efforts to identify those he suspects might harm children, Lampros engages in online chats with individuals pretending to be minors. Recently, he and his team confronted a target at a public setting, documented the encounter, and alerted law enforcement with the gathered evidence.

Interestingly, the organization shares videos of these confrontations on social media, showcasing their activities alongside championship belts.

Details of the Confrontation

Christian Walden, 21, from Boynton Beach, Florida, allegedly arranged to meet a 13-year-old he believed was named “Justin” at a hardware store back in May, according to court documents. Instead, Lampros approached him in the midst of store displays and questioned him about his intentions.

The fighter recorded Walden’s reaction after he discovered Lampros was not who he expected. It’s noted that their conversation had begun on Grindr, where Walden exchanged numbers with who he thought was a teenager. The chats quickly transitioned from the app to text messaging, ultimately leading to the arrangement of a meeting.

While at the store on May 26, Lampros informed Walden he was affiliated with a group observing adult-minor interactions online.

Walden claimed he was simply there to meet someone he encountered online, brushing off the seriousness of his actions. However, he revealed during questioning that he thought he was meeting someone aged 14, but was told that “Justin” was actually 13. As Lampros pressed for details, Walden explained the sexual act they planned, all while being filmed.

The encounter concluded with the authorities arriving outside the store to take Walden into custody, where he admitted to intending to engage in sexual activity with a minor.

Legal Consequences

Walden was charged with traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual activity, which is a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years. Additionally, he’s facing charges for using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, which could result in another five years of prison time.

Currently 22 years old, Walden is out on $25,000 bail. At the time of his arrest, he held a position as a student government officer at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). However, following the incident, fellow officers quickly voted to remove him from his role. On his LinkedIn, he portrayed himself as a public management student deeply involved in various campus clubs and initiatives.

Mark Astor, a criminal defense attorney, mentioned that while civilian efforts to identify predators are legal in Florida, there are specific bounds they cannot cross, such as coordinating with law enforcement beforehand, as this could be viewed as entrapment.

Amidst these startling developments, Lampros, who also goes by “Scrappy,” is scheduled to return to the ring at Combat Night on July 25.
