The former mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Sandra Cuevas, has been in the limelight thanks to Mexico’s World Cup performance. With the national team, El Tri, starting the tournament strong, she’s caught some attention.
After wins over South Africa and South Korea, there’s a bit more joy in the country. Yet, it’s not just the victories that are drawing eyes—Cuevas recently made headlines for her bold fashion choice at a rally, which led her to respond to various comments about her appearance.
“Well, what can I say? I can’t just take it off,” she remarked in response to the remarks online.
Recently shared photos online show Cuevas, who is 40, sporting a low-cut white tank top while watching the games. It seems she had a Mexican jersey tied around her waist, though she wasn’t actually wearing it in the pictures.
She addressed the situation further, stating, “I don’t perceive it as an attack. Sure, some might take it that way, but that’s just how we Mexicans are.”
Her term as mayor lasted from October 2021 to March 2024, and she’s now said to be involved with the Mexican Nuevo political movement.
This week, Cuevas and her fellow fans have been celebrating, especially after the team’s recent victories. Mexico kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 win against South Africa and, just a few days later, secured a 1-0 victory over South Korea.
El Tri is already through the group stage and will play its final group match against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
