Exciting Wrestling Events Ahead
This past May was fantastic for pro wrestling, but June might be even better, especially with four major events scheduled this weekend from three different companies and four brands.
WWE’s Night of Champions is happening on Saturday. It features the finals for both the King and Queen of the Ring, where winners will earn title shots at SummerSlam. Jey Uso will compete against Oba Femi in the King of the Ring final, while Liv Morgan faces Iyo Sky in the Queen of the Ring final.
The match with Uso is significant for both wrestlers. Uso aims to solidify his reputation as a top competitor within the Bloodline storyline, while Femi is still reeling from a recent loss to Brock Lesnar, which complicates his journey. A win for Uso could lead him to challenge Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns for the world title. Femi, too, might end up crossing paths with Lesnar again, which could add more drama to his story.
On the women’s side, Morgan, already a world champion, could up the stakes even more by aiming to win both titles, creating an intriguing storyline against Rhea Ripley. But let’s not forget about Ripley’s ally, Sky, who might steal the spotlight.
These aren’t the only matches on the card. Night of Champions will also feature three title matches: Cody Rhodes faces Sami Zayn and Gunther in a triple threat for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Trick Williams defends the United States Championship against Ricky Saints, and Tiffany Stratton competes for the United States Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill.
On Sunday, fans will be treated to WWE NXT’s The Great American Bash, AEW’s Forbidden Door, and TNA’s Slammiversary. Each event will showcase unique matches and storylines, promising plenty of action.
At The Great American Bash, four titles are on the line. Notably, Laura Vice defends her NXT Women’s Championship against rising star Kendall Gray, while Tony D’Angelo faces Naraku for the NXT Championship. There’s also a North American Championship match between Miles Bourne and Tavion Heights, and Len Sinclair defends the WWE Women’s Speed Championship against either Ariana Grace or Izzy Dame. Oh, and Saquon Sugars will face Deion Lennox.
It’s shaping up to be a pivotal show for WWE—especially with Vice and Gray’s matchup, which carries heavier stakes beyond just the title. If Vice loses, she might need to turn her focus to her AAA commitments in Mexico instead of NXT. On the other hand, a win for Gray would rocket her to the top.
AEW’s Forbidden Door has plenty of anticipation as well. This pay-per-view event will determine who earns a chance for a world title shot. Will Ospreay is set to clash with Swerve Strickland in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Final, while Mercedes Mone will face Maya World in the Women’s Final. These matchups are gearing up to create a lot of buzz for AEW’s major summer event.
A 12-man tag match inside a steel cage will also feature Mark Brisco, hoping to finally earn a shot at the AEW World Championship. He will face MJF and his five-man team, which was revealed last week on “Dynamite.”
The event promises an exciting lineup that brings together talent from around the globe. Matches include Thekla against Stardom’s Starlight Kid for the AEW Women’s World Championship, Shota Unno defending his IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship, a tag team championship face-off featuring Megan Bayne and Lena Cross versus Thunder Rosa and Olympia, and an AEW World Tag Team title defense by Christian Cage and Adam Cope against Clark Connors and David Finlay.
Meanwhile, TNA’s annual Slammiversary takes place on the same night. All six of TNA’s titles will be contested, including exciting formats like the Ultimate X Match and a Ladder Match.
A highlight of the Ladder Match will include X-Division Champion Cedric Alexander defending his title against a talented roster, featuring familiar names such as Leon Slater, Frankie Kazarian, Mr. Elegance, Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, and Amazing Red. The Ultimate X matches usually deliver thrilling moments, and this one is sure to be no different.
Heather By Elegance and M. By Elegance will defend the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship against Rosemary and Allie. Mustafa Ali will throw out an open challenge for the TNA International Championship, and the ongoing rivalry between Lei Ying Lee and Shea Brookside will culminate with Lee defending the TNA Knockouts World Championship.
For the main event, Mike Santana will defend the TNA World Championship against Nick Nemeth, who is looking to become a champion once more. Santana aims to prove his dominance and remedy his near miss at last year’s Slammiversary when he almost seized the title.
Even if you’re busy now, you might find yourself eager for these matches by Thursday night.
Los Perros del Mar Return with AAA
In the midst of all this action, AAA often manages to shine through. Recently, El Grande Americano made a triumphant return to the ring, greeted by a cheering crowd. But he’s now facing off against a new threat: Perro del Mal.
Los Perros del Mar has been one of Mexico’s most notorious factions since the days of Perro Aguyao Jr. This group features major stars like Penta and Conan and made a comeback recently with new members.
Daga, Berto, Ángel, Bronco Nima, and Carmen Petrovic attacked El Grande Americano, revealing his Los Perros del Mal shirt, which sent the audience and social media into a frenzy. It will be intriguing to follow the storyline and see who else might join this formidable group.
Austin Aries Makes a Comeback
After quite some time without gold, Austin Aries captured the MLW United States Openweight Championship during “MLW Fusion,” defeating Blue Panther.
Initially joining MLW as a commentator, Aries shared with FOX News Digital his enthusiasm for stepping back into the ring. Last year, he was invited to compete in the Opera Cup and had the chance to face off against top talent like Kushida and Místico.
Reflecting on his return, he remarked on the challenge of testing his physicality at this stage in his career. He feels he still has much to offer and aims to become a world champion again.
