Church Director Arrested for Video Voyeurism

A church director in Fruitland Park, Florida, has been arrested on charges of video voyeurism after inappropriate images were found on his work laptop, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Charles Burton Lucas, 59, was taken into custody on Friday after the IT director at RoMac Building Supply discovered a Google Drive folder containing explicit images of underage girls and adult women. This led to a call to the Leesburg Police Department. Following this incident, RoMac confirmed that Lucas was no longer with the company.

The company released a statement saying, “This material was discovered by our team during routine internal procedures and immediately reported to law enforcement. We have fully cooperated with authorities from the beginning and will continue to do so. Mr. Lucas is no longer employed by RoMac.”

According to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, investigators found additional footage showing what seems to be a young girl changing inside a church bathroom. It was later determined that this video was recorded by a hidden camera installed in a church locker room and bathroom.

Upon returning to inspect the restroom, law enforcement found that the camera had been removed.

Lucas was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail, where he was later released on a $25,000 bail on Saturday afternoon.

Lucas was described as a “supervisor” at Heritage Community Church. The church expressed its concern in a statement, saying they were “in our prayers” for Lucas and his family amid the ongoing investigation. They also emphasized their care for those possibly affected by the situation.

“Our primary concern is the individuals and families who may have been affected by these allegations,” part of the statement read. “We recognize the seriousness of this situation and the deep hurt, confusion, and pain it can cause.” The church asserted that they do not tolerate behaviors that harm others and are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The investigation is still active, and inquiries have been made with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
