Geno Smith being investigated for suspected assault at his Florida residence

Jets coach Aaron Glenn makes a daring statement regarding Geno Smith's second chance

Geno Smith is currently under investigation by Florida authorities regarding allegations of assault.

A woman on Instagram accused the former New York Jets quarterback of hitting her, claiming that it was difficult for her to leave him alone due to his apparent reluctance to care for children with special needs and his online activities, which included watching explicit content and playing video games like Call of Duty.

According to reports from various outlets, including California Post and ESPN, police arrived at Smith’s residence in Davie, Florida, on Sunday, but no arrests occurred.

ESPN later confirmed that the case is ongoing and requires further review. As of now, no new details have been released, and the Jets organization has not responded to inquiries regarding the situation.

Smith is set to begin his second term with the Jets after previously being drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The team recently acquired him through a trade involving the Las Vegas Raiders.

This season marks his third time playing at MetLife Stadium, as he had signed with the New York Giants following his initial period with the Jets. He spent two years backing up Russell Wilson in Seattle, achieving a .500 record during his three seasons as a starter. However, he was traded to the Raiders, a move that played a part in the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl last February.

Last season, Smith had a challenging year, leading the NFL with 17 interceptions. His time in Las Vegas was brief, and the Jets hold the No. 2 pick in this quarterback class, opting for veteran experience after a lackluster performance from recent picks.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn expressed confidence in Smith, stating that he believes Smith can guide the team to success. The Jets finished the last season with only three wins and haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2010.
