Guy Benson Critiques Far-Left NYC Candidate

Guy Benson has taken aim at the radical views of Democratic Socialist candidates in New York City, particularly focusing on Dalializa Chevalier. He pointed out her hesitance to denounce Hamas and her extreme positions, like wanting to abolish ICE and opposing deportations even for serious offenders. This raises a question: do voters in New York really want such far-left ideologies?

In other news, Micah Lasher, a state representative, emerged victorious in the Democratic primary to succeed the retiring U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler. Lasher overcame a diverse group of candidates, including George Conway, a well-known attorney and critic of Trump, and Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President Kennedy.

The primary gained significant attention as it marked a rare opportunity for an open seat in a Manhattan district that Nadler has held for over three decades.

This competitive primary featured a mix of local politicians and national figures. George Conway, who was married to one of Trump’s key advisors, has become a prominent adversary of Trump himself. Meanwhile, Schlossberg attracted attention due to his famous lineage and active social media presence.

Lasher also faced competition from Alex Boaz, another state representative. Boaz’s campaign was particularly notable because of his involvement in pushing New York’s RAISE Act, a law focused on AI safety, which garnered both support and fierce opposition from tech-related super PACs. These groups invested heavily against him, turning the primary into a battleground over how much control states should have over rapidly evolving industries.

Lasher had the backing of key political figures, including Nadler and Governor Kathy Hochul. His candidacy represents a continuation of establishment support in a race where several of his rivals hold prominent national profiles.

Previously, Lasher worked under Nadler and held roles in the administration of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg. With such backing from influential Democrats in New York, his victory could indicate that local support is still a significant factor in elections, particularly against candidates with more recognized names.

As the general election approaches in November, Lasher appears to be in a strong position. The district leans heavily Democratic, encompassing affluent areas like the Upper West Side and Midtown, suggesting that he may face little resistance as he moves forward.
