Trump Mocks George Conway’s Primary Loss
During the recent Democratic primary for Manhattan’s congressional seat, President Trump took the opportunity to mock George Conway, an outspoken critic of his presidency.
Conway, once known as a Republican political strategist and married to former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, has increasingly opposed Trump since the 2016 election. He co-founded the Lincoln Project, a group aiming to oppose Trump’s influence.
“This person is truly unattractive, both inside and out. Have a good life, George!”
Despite his notoriety, Conway struggled in a competitive primary in New York’s 12th Congressional District, which included notable candidates such as a Kennedy heir.
Trump remarked, “Wow, Kellyanne Conway’s insane loser at the highest level will be completely trounced in tonight’s primary.” He suggested Conway would only get about 5% of the vote in what he deemed a weak field of “young, aggressive communists.” Trump also referred to George’s personal life, saying, “No wonder his ‘husband’ abandoned him like a dog!”
Conway’s campaign did not provide any comments in response to the remarks.
Kellyanne Conway, who left Trump’s campaign prior to the 2020 elections, has been a strong advocate for his policies. The couple announced their divorce in March 2023 after two decades of marriage.
In the primary, results indicated that Congressman Micah Lasher secured 39% of the vote, while Conway trailed with only 6%. Jack Kennedy Schlossberg, another candidate with a famous surname, managed about 11% of the votes.
Lasher, a lifelong Democrat, expressed his intention to “renew and recharge the Democratic Party in Washington” after his victory, signaling a push for new ideas to benefit struggling Americans. Given that two-thirds of registered voters in the district are Democrats, he may have a favorable path ahead.
