Air Canada Flight Diverted to Boston Due to Captain’s Medical Emergency
An Air Canada flight had to divert to Boston’s Logan International Airport on Wednesday after the captain faced a medical emergency, as reported by the airline.
Flight AC7664, operated by Pal Airlines, was traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to Halifax, Nova Scotia, carrying 61 passengers on a de Havilland Q400 turboprop at the time of the incident.
Air Canada stated that the captain experienced health issues and was removed from the flight deck following safety protocols.
The co-pilot then had to take over, managing to turn the aircraft around and landing safely in Boston at 1:37 p.m. local time. Airline representatives remarked that their pilots are well-trained to handle such situations and can operate the aircraft solo.
The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) confirmed that the landing occurred without further complications, with Massport Fire Rescue and Boston EMS on hand to assist the crew as necessary.
Additionally, Air Canada noted that the captain’s symptoms didn’t improve right away, leading to treatment in Boston. However, the specific medical issues that arose remain unclear.
The airline is in the process of arranging new travel plans for the affected passengers to ensure they can continue their journey to Halifax.
