Rhys Williams Trains with Red Bull New York
Rhys Williams, who is about to leave Liverpool, has been training with Red Bull New York at their new facility in Morristown, New Jersey, during his World Cup break.
On Wednesday, he was spotted on the pitch as part of a media session. Williams took part in several drills with the first team, and the training was open for viewing by reporters.
As reported by South Ward Central, Williams has been impressing the coaching staff during his time there.
Although his contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley mentioned he plans to have discussions with Williams and his agent about future possibilities.
“Reece has made a really positive impression. He has a great attitude and has integrated really well into the group,” Bradley noted after the training session. “We’re continually looking at ways to enhance our team, and Rhys’ experience could be quite valuable to us moving forward. We’ll talk with him and his representatives soon to see what the best options are.”
Williams has been with Liverpool since he joined the Under-10s and turned professional in 2019. He contributed to the club’s FA Youth Cup win that same year, making his first-team debut a year later under Jurgen Klopp, who now heads Red Bull’s world football strategy.
During the 2020-2021 season, the defender played 19 matches for the first team. Since then, he has been on loan several times, playing for clubs like Swansea, Blackpool, Aberdeen, Port Vale, and Morecambe.
Bradley also highlighted the importance of maintaining open communication with Klopp. “We are fortunate to have Jurgen’s experience and connections, and we strive to utilize that effectively,” he added.
As it stands, the Red Bulls are positioned fifth in the league as the World Cup takes a break.
