A well-known pop star is feeling ecstatic about her nation’s involvement in the 2026 World Cup.
Shakira, hailing from Colombia, couldn’t hide her joy after her team secured a 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Tuesday. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be at the game since she’s currently on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Jolan” world tour.
But that didn’t stop her from staying connected. After hearing about Colombia’s win while backstage at a performance in Dallas, the 49-year-old exclaimed, “Colombia just won!” and celebrated with her team.
The four-time Grammy winner and 15-time Latin Grammy recipient has a profound connection to the World Cup. Back in 2010, she was selected to write the anthem for the World Cup in South Africa, which led to the creation of “Waka Waka,” one of her career highlights.
She also produced “Dai Dai” for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which managed to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100. This song was performed during the opening ceremony of the tournament’s first match in Mexico City.
2026 World Cup News
Colombia has made an encouraging start in the 2026 World Cup, securing victories in their initial group stage matches against Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their most challenging match is yet to come against Portugal, which will determine their progress in the group.
All FIFA World Cup matches will air on FOX or FOX Sports 1. If you’re without cable, you can stream every match through a free trial of DIRECTV.
Colombia can either win or draw to advance, while Portugal will need a victory against the South American side to advance, especially after their 1-1 tie with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Shakira’s tour will keep moving across the United States during the World Cup, so if Colombia maintains its momentum, there may be plenty more celebrations from her in the wings.
