Brad Pitt Wins Legal Battle Against Angelina Jolie Over Winery
Brad Pitt has secured another win in his ongoing legal dispute with ex-wife Angelina Jolie concerning Chateau Miraval.
On June 17, the California Superior Court granted a motion brought by Pitt’s legal team. This included significant depositions from members of the Story Group, a company involved in wine production and distribution, as noted in court documents.
Pitt’s lawyers argued that Jolie’s investors were aware of her 2021 sale of a French winery, which Pitt had co-owned with Jolie, to Tenuto del Monde, part of the Stoli Group.
In June 2025, he filed to have Alexey Olynyk, a member of the Story Group, dismissed from the case. Olynyk reportedly refused to provide necessary documents or participate in a deposition, claiming he wasn’t subject to such requirements because he resides in Switzerland.
A source shared that “those involved in the story must now deal with the music and be transparent about their dealings.”
The feud over the $500 million estate, purchased in 2008, intensified after Jolie sold her stake in half of the vineyard in 2021. Following that sale, Pitt filed a lawsuit in 2022, claiming Jolie breached a prior agreement stating that neither would sell without the other’s consent.
Jolie has denied such an agreement exists and alleged in her countersuit that Pitt was “waging a war of revenge” against her.
The legal tussle has dragged on for years, with Pitt reportedly achieving a significant victory just last month.
A judge in Michigan ruled that attorneys for the Story Group had improperly prevented witness testimony during crucial depositions related to this case. The court found that Todd Kriva, the former general counsel for Stoli, had been wrongly instructed not to answer questions in a deposition regarding Jolie’s sale of her stake.
However, a source claimed that “this ruling is not a big deal and will not affect the case in any way,” adding that Kriva was ordered to undergo another deposition and respond to previously blocked questions.
On her side, Jolie had her own legal win recently when a judge dismissed Pitt’s attempt to force her to hand over private emails concerning the winery dispute, citing attorney-client privilege. The ruling was “denied without prejudice,” leaving the door open for Pitt to address it again later. A source remarked on the surprising number of documents Jolie had withheld during the case.
Since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, the ex-couple’s battle has continued. They share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivian, 17. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024 after a lengthy and complicated legal process spanning over eight years.
Throughout their legal conflicts, Jolie has accused Pitt of attempting to silence her and using the lawsuit as a way to disguise personal wrongdoings during their marriage.
