Bill Maher Expresses Support for J.D. Vance in 2028 Election
Recently, Bill Maher informed Vice President J.D. Vance of his intention to support him in the upcoming 2028 election. During Friday’s episode of “Real Time” on HBO, Maher suggested that voter sentiment might shift to the right if the Democratic Party continues moving towards socialism. In a video clip from the show, he stated, “If this is the direction the Democratic Party is headed—this democratic socialism, this obsession with Israel, and a rejection of capitalism—then my vote counts.”
Vance, 41, responded positively to Maher’s remarks, indicating that he appreciated the support. Maher elaborated that his voting choices have never been solely determined by party affiliation. “Actually, that’s always been my approach,” he explained. He noted that he’s typically leaned toward Democratic candidates, believing it’s generally the better option.
With former President Donald Trump not on the ballot for a second term, Maher noted that he was narrowing down his list of Republicans for whom he might vote, mentioning he would choose between Vance or Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State.
WHOA: Bill Maher gives JD Vance a death stare and says his “vote counts” for 2028.
Mr. Maher openly admitted to Mr. Vance that if a socialist took over the Democratic Party, he would likely vote for him or Mr. Rubio.

However, Maher set a condition for this support, pushing Vance to distance himself from Trump’s habit of contesting election outcomes. He emphasized that this behavior was a deal-breaker for voters like him. Maher pressed Vance on whether he would promote acceptance of election results instead of alleging fraud when losing.
Vance, in response, did not provide the answers Maher sought. “Okay, Bill, we’re going to lose you here,” he replied, citing Trump’s focus on 2020 election complaints, including grievances against tech companies he felt suppressed right-leaning content.
Maher also expressed frustration with notable Democrats who refuse to appear on his show, remarking, “We didn’t get AOC, we didn’t get Mamdani, we didn’t get Kamala Harris. It took us eight years to get Obama!”
As the left wing of the Democratic Party continues to gain traction, Maher’s dissatisfaction grows. Recently, Daria Riza Avila Chevalier, a Democratic Socialist, defeated incumbent Adriano Espaira in the primary election for New York’s 13th Congressional District, supported by New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani.
