Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary Through Music

As the nation prepares for its 250th anniversary, it’s essential to highlight the significance of art, culture, and storytelling. In a unique initiative, some of Nashville’s most talented songwriters and artists were invited to create original pieces that capture their sentiments about America. This acoustic performance marks the debut of these songs, which have never been heard or performed by their creators before. Additionally, a special broadcast in collaboration with SiriusXM will feature these songs, airing closer to July 4th. This project aims to present what is being called the “American Soundtrack.”

About five years back, one of the contributors, who at the time was Breitbart’s chief operating officer, was preparing for a songwriting trip to Nashville. Just before his first session, he learned from his publisher that another writer’s truck had broken down, resulting in a last-minute change. Nonetheless, he ended up connecting with Michael Farren the following day. Instead of diving right into songwriting, they spent hours talking about various subjects like life, faith, and the human experience before finally collaborating on a song.

This initial meeting blossomed into a strong friendship and partnership, resulting in a dozen songs together. Farren was among the first singer-songwriters to collaborate with Breitbart, and he had previously co-written a notable song for country star Lee Brice.

Their musical collaboration reflects the themes found in their contributions to the American Soundtrack. They hail from distinct backgrounds: one from Texas and the other from LA, with roots that differ in style and tradition. Despite these differences, the shared creative process in the songwriting room led to the belief that “something will work out.” Their lyrics celebrate the intricate beauty and diversity making up the American landscape, emphasizing that it’s not merely the differences that define the nation but what binds them together in these contrasting experiences.

As they explored subjects such as the good and bad within society, the song lyrics highlight this blend of identities: a cowboy alongside a preacher, thriving cities with bright lights, and humble farmers working the land.

Farren expressed that he had long contemplated the title “The United Saints of America.” He hoped to spark dialogue around love for the country, finding ways to connect even amidst disagreements. The sentiment was about maintaining brotherhood, accepting differing viewpoints but still expressing affection.

Excited about their new song, Farren and Kahn ventured into the studio to record it together, creating a version of “American Union of Saints” that reflects their shared vision. The song is set to be released next week and will be featured on Breitbart.com.
