Three Arrested in Stabbing Death of Texas Mother
Authorities have charged two sisters and a friend with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 32-year-old Texas mother of five in broad daylight. The incident occurred recently, shocking the local community.
The suspects, identified as Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and her sister Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, along with their friend Candra Renee Faz, 21, were arrested in connection with the crime, as announced by Del Rio police. The victim was named Caroline “Caro” Peña, according to local media sources.
“She was just born to be a mother,” stated Zelina Ochoa, a lifelong friend of Peña. The emotional tribute captures how deeply Peña valued motherhood.
Del Rio, a small city near the Mexican border with a population of about 35,000, became the scene of this tragic event. Witnesses reported that Peña was found at a busy intersection with multiple stab wounds after being assaulted.
“This wasn’t some back-alley attack. This was broad daylight, right by one of the busiest roads,” Ochoa expressed, highlighting the audacity of the attack.
After being transported to Valverde Regional Medical Center, Peña was later taken to a facility in San Antonio due to the seriousness of her injuries, having suffered wounds to her back and abdomen. Authorities learned she had been stabbed twice in the back and three times in her abdomen.
Detectives quickly identified the suspects through surveillance footage and witness interviews. The arrests were made without incident later that same day.
A friend of Peña, Cristina Salinas, shared a heart-wrenching story of missing a call from her shortly before the stabbing. “If I had answered that call, I really think I could have been there for her,” she lamented. “Maybe things would have turned out differently.”
As of now, police haven’t disclosed a motive behind the attack. All three suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
Peña had five children, including a 17-year-old son and a twin sister. Her friend Ochoa shared just how generous Peña was. “If you needed something, and she had it, she would give it to you, no matter what,” she recalled.
The investigation is still active, and authorities mentioned that more charges could be forthcoming as more evidence comes to light.
