Emma Raducanu has had to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a right foot injury that has persisted leading up to the Grand Slam event.

As the No. 30 seed, she was set to compete against Antonia Ruzic on Court 1 on Monday. However, on Sunday, she posted a message on social media announcing her decision. “It’s hard to believe I’m saying this, but sadly, I must pull out of this year’s Wimbledon,” the 23-year-old expressed. “I’ve tried everything to be ready for tomorrow, but after the final examination tonight, it turns out that the small injury I thought was healing has actually turned into a stress fracture. I’ve been advised not to push myself further.”

“This is such a difficult realization, as playing in front of my home crowd at Wimbledon means so much to me. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement I’ve received; it means a lot, especially during times like this. I look forward to my return,” she continued.

Raducanu, who won the U.S. Open in 2021, has faced a challenging 2026 season filled with health setbacks. She contracted a virus in February and found herself off the court from March to May due to lingering effects.

During the clay court season, she struggled with the foot problem, which intensified after reaching the final at the HSBC Championship at Queen’s Club. She missed practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, and her Saturday session ended prematurely.

Raducanu still managed to practice for an hour with her hitting partner, Alexis Kante.

She seemed determined to compete when speaking to reporters on Sunday, sharing, “I’m committed to doing everything possible with my team for treatment. Right now, the goal is to play.” She mentioned, “I’ve been dealing with a lump in my lower leg since before Queen’s, really since the end of the clay season. I was able to manage it for several matches at Queen’s, but being off the court for a bit added stress. I’m just trying to handle it the best I can with my team and exploring every option.”
