Tragic Loss of a Heroic Teen

A heartbroken father has shared the last words of his courageous daughter, who tragically drowned while attempting to save her nine-year-old cousin.

Glenn Bradley from Detroit recalled the chilling moment his 14-year-old daughter, Amina, got caught in the river’s current after her cousin fell in over the weekend at Mahelas Gentry Park.

Mr. Bradley, a father of three, jumped into the water to help her. Before he could reach them, a teenage boy was also swept away by the current, looking back at him in distress.

“The last words she said to me were, ‘Dad, please help me,'” he shared with local news station WXYZ. “When I went after her, she just vanished, sank beneath the water, and never came back.”

“I was drowning myself; someone had to save me,” he recalled, reflecting on the chaotic situation.

Bystanders managed to rescue Mr. Bradley and the nine-year-old, but unfortunately, Amina drowned before anyone could reach her. Police later recovered her body from the river.

Mr. Bradley, who raised Amina with her mother after her biological mother left, mentioned having had a heated discussion with her the night before the tragic event.

“The night before, she was upset with me, so we talked it out. She eventually climbed into bed, crying, and gave me the biggest hug,” he recounted. “The next morning, she jumped in bed with me, hugged me tightly, and told me she loved me.”

The heartbreaking incident occurred during a family celebration for Amina’s brother’s graduation at a local park.

A GoFundMe page created to support the Bradley family had raised over $1,100 by Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Bradley expressed that the family is deeply mourning Amina’s passing, admitting that he struggles to come to terms with losing his daughter. “She was my favorite girl in the world… It just doesn’t feel real,” he said. “Sometimes I feel almost numb.”
