Police in San Francisco hurt as crowd reportedly attempted to prevent arrests of two suspects during 'Trans March'

During a recent trans march in San Francisco, two individuals were arrested, three marchers were taken into custody, and two police officers were injured amid a clash. The police stated that marchers attempted to prevent the arrest of a suspect.

Witnesses reported that chaos erupted when police confronted marchers who had allegedly engaged in vandalism by spraying paint. When authorities moved to detain one of the suspects, the crowd surrounded the individual, obstructing the police.

A woman named Missy, who attended the event with her transgender child, expressed her shock over the incident. She described the atmosphere as festive, filled with dancing and joy, before it abruptly shifted to tension as police arrived with weapons drawn.

As she recounted her experience, Missy described the sudden change: “Everything was fun and carefree, and then the police came at us, some with guns out.” She emphasized that police should have perhaps de-escalated the situation rather than intervening violently.

In relation to the arrests, two individuals were charged with obstructing police operations, and three others were facing charges for property destruction and assault.

Missy voiced her belief that the police response was excessive, especially for an act like spray painting: “I get that large gatherings need monitoring, but it just seems unnecessary in this case.”

In a statement, the San Francisco Police Department affirmed its commitment to protecting the right to protest while also stating that criminal behavior would not be accepted.

One live streamer was also vocal during the event, challenging police actions, particularly regarding the arrest of individuals in a district known for its support of the transgender community.

Missy expressed frustration that rather than supporting the march and its participants, police opted to focus on apprehending those accused of wrongdoing, urging that they should align more closely with the community.
