Leader of Rochdale Grooming Gang Will Not Be Deported to Home Country of Pakistan

The infamous leader of a Pakistani child sex ring is set to be released from prison, and the British government has informed victims that he cannot be deported.

Shabir Ahmed, a Pakistani national, was sentenced to 22 years in prison in 2012 for multiple child sex offenses, including raping one girl thirty times in Rochdale, a town in northern England. It emerged that he led a grooming gang that systematically drugged and intoxicated vulnerable girls, essentially turning them into sex slaves.

Although he lost his British citizenship alongside other child groomers from Rochdale, like Abdul Aziz, Adil Khan, and Abdul Rauf, Ahmed was able to evade deportation by using a legal loophole.

After renouncing his Pakistani citizenship and destroying his passport, he successfully appealed under the 1971 Immigration Act, which prevents deporting individuals from Commonwealth nations who entered the UK before 1973.

In a letter to the victims, the Home Office stated that it has run out of legal options to deport him and that he will remain in the UK post-release next month, according to a report from oldham chronicle.

This situation will necessitate significant taxpayer spending to monitor Ahmed, ensuring he avoids restricted areas. He will be prohibited from entering Rochdale during a probation period that lasts until 2034. Ahmed must also reside in a location with round-the-clock supervision and is forbidden from contacting the victim.

A spokesperson from the Home Office shared that their primary concern is with the victims of these atrocious crimes. They emphasized that Ahmed’s actions were central to a scandal that highlighted a dark chapter in the country’s history, where vulnerable individuals were victimized by malicious child rapists who must be held accountable.

Upon his release, Ahmed will be registered as a lifelong sex offender, required to maintain distance from his victims, and barred from interacting with minors. He will be subject to a strict curfew and must wear an electronic monitoring device. Any violation of these conditions could lead to immediate imprisonment.

Interestingly, Ahmed has criticized the all-white jury that convicted him, claiming that Britain is “institutionally racist” and asserting that it’s become fashionable to blame Muslims for societal issues.

Notably, during his incarceration, the convicted rapist continued to vocalize these beliefs, taking on the role of an “equality representative” for his fellow inmates.
