Florida Gubernatorial Primary: Rep. Byron Donald’s Campaign Dominates
As the Florida gubernatorial primary approaches on August 18, Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.) appears to be in a commanding position, shattering fundraising records in the process. Reports indicate that Donald’s campaign has raised over $90 million, supported by 37,154 individual donors. Notably, the campaign garnered $23 million just in the second quarter and has reached out to voters by knocking on 180,000 doors statewide. Furthermore, Donald’s campaign has rolled out a $20 million advertising initiative across television and digital platforms.
The advertisements, titled “Jack Up” and “Shot,” showcase Donald’s collaboration with President Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis on an AI data center in one, while the other emphasizes the financial struggles faced by residents.
“Florida is where I built something from the ground up, raised my family, and lived my Florida dream, but today rising costs are putting everything at risk. That’s why I’m cutting property taxes, lowering insurance premiums, and making life more affordable,” Donald asserts.
Polls continue to show Donald in a strong lead for the highly anticipated primary. A recent poll from Florida Associated Industries revealed that he holds 54% approval in a crowded four-way race, with no other candidate even approaching double digits in support. James Fishbach sits at 8%, Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins has 5%, and former House Speaker Paul Renner trails behind with only 2%. Close to a third of voters remain undecided.
“While the rest of the field is vying for attention, Byron is concentrating on what really matters: engaging with the community, raising funds, and advocating for a safe, free, and affordable Florida,” stated Gates McGavik, the campaign’s communications director. He emphasized, “Democrats are keen on reversing the conservative triumph in Florida. Byron is determined to prevent that.”
The candidate boasts a range of notable endorsements, including backing from President Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Elon Musk, Senator Rick Scott, various Florida sheriffs, and other conservative leaders in the state. His latest endorsements come from incoming Florida House Speaker Sam Garrison and Senate President Jim Boyd.
In a recent conversation with Breitbart News Saturday, Donald remarked that voters “want Florida to remain Florida.” He elaborated, saying, “Everyone loves our state. We’re the best state in America, and they want that to continue.”
When discussing critical issues, Donald highlighted the necessity of addressing affordability. “There’s no denying it. We need to scrutinize every aspect of government and the state of Florida to find ways to lower costs,” he said, adding, “Growth is coming to Florida because we run a great state.”
He further mentioned, “People will be drawn here because it’s based on common-sense conservatism. We aim to strike a balance between new growth and preserving the beauty of Florida while ensuring we have the necessary infrastructure in place.”
