Captain America Saves the Day
Putting aside comic book lore, Captain America has returned in a real-life story.
Walter Jenkins, a prospect for the Twins, often called Captain America, came to the aid of a young fan who had collapsed before a game on Tuesday.
The Triple-A St. Paul Saints shared footage of Jenkins’ quick actions, capturing the moment he rushed to help Lucas, a young fan who had stumbled during the national anthem.
As Lucas began to lose his balance, Jenkins instinctively reached out, catching him just in time. When Lucas went limp, Jenkins didn’t hesitate. He scooped him up, running off the field with the young fan in his arms and delivering him to the team’s athletic trainer.
Afterward, the team shared a photo of Lucas giving a thumbs-up, confirming he was okay.
“Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear No. 23 Saints jerseys,” the team tweeted, expressing their relief that Lincoln was fine and received some new goodies.
Meanwhile, Jenkins had an impressive game, going 3-for-5 with one hit and three RBIs in the Saints’ 12-6 victory.
As a fifth-round pick in the 2023 MLB draft, Jenkins has been doing well in Triple-A, boasting a batting average of .272 along with two home runs and 11 RBIs over his career.
The 21-year-old, hailing from Wilmington, North Carolina, earned the nickname “Captain America” after a meeting with former Twins star Michael Cuddyer a few years back.
Reflecting on his approach to the game, Jenkins once said, “I hate losing more than I love winning,” which really encapsulates his competitiveness. “I’m going to give it my all. I’ll bring 100 percent to be the best player and teammate I can be.”
