Couple Taken into Custody After Climbing Empire State Building and Getting Engaged Over New York City

Couple Arrested After Engagement on Empire State Building

A couple gained attention when they scaled the Empire State Building and got engaged 1,400 feet above New York City. Reports indicate they were arrested on Wednesday.

Ivan Bielkas, a Russian blogger and roofer, proposed to Angela Nikolaou, a Russian artist and fellow roofer, from the top of the iconic building.

Social media videos captured the moment of the proposal, showing the couple embracing and sharing a kiss. Nikolaou was later seen admiring her engagement ring, snapping a photo of her hand with the New York skyline behind her.

Interestingly, Bielkas and Nikolaou are set to be featured in a Netflix documentary titled House of Skywalker: A Love Story. However, a source clarified that their recent antics were unrelated to the film.

This documentary will follow the couple as they travel to climb Merdeka 118, a skyscraper in Malaysia, where they plan to perform a daring stunt to revive both their careers and relationship.

On the day of their stunt in New York, Bielkas and Nikolaou unfurled a large banner stating, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world knows peace.”

Around noon, police received multiple 911 calls about two individuals seen atop the building’s spire antenna, which stands at 1,454 feet. Bielkas and Nikolaou reportedly spent about 30 minutes at the spire before making their way down, where Bielkas proposed in front of onlookers.

Shortly after their descent, they were taken into custody by the NYPD.

Authorities later reviewed surveillance footage, revealing that the couple accessed the spire through a maintenance hatch on the 102nd floor.

The pair are now facing several charges, including robbery, reckless endangerment, and criminal trespassing among others. They have become known for their controversial “rooftop roll” stunts, with Nikolaou frequently sharing their adventures on social media.

After spending the night apart in jail cells, they were arraigned the following morning. Interestingly, Nikolaou mentioned on Instagram that she enjoys adventurous risks, stating, “No risk, no story,” while sharing videos of their escapades.

Interestingly, on her birthday, Nikolaou asked her 1.9 million followers for genuine thoughts rather than typical birthday wishes, sharing footage of her on a narrow ledge high up a skyscraper.
