Second Suspect Identified in Armed Robbery of Children’s Lemonade Stand

Authorities in Boston have shared a photo of another suspect linked to the armed robbery of a children’s lemonade stand last month, which has sent shockwaves through the community.

This suspect is still at large. After the incident on June 10, he was seen walking around without a shirt, dressed in black pants and carrying a black backpack.

In a recently released image, the second suspect is also shown wearing similar attire, which includes a black backpack.

The lemonade sellers, 12-year-old David Byrne and his sister, 11-year-old Juliette, were operating their stand near their home on West 9th Street in South Boston. They noticed two younger individuals circling their stand multiple times before approaching.

The suspects inquired whether the kids accepted Apple Pay, but before they could answer, one of the robbers pulled out a black firearm from his waistband, as reported by the Boston Police Department.

While one suspect brandished the weapon, the other grabbed the cashbox containing around $50, leading to further chaos.

A 14-year-old suspect was apprehended two years later and is facing charges for armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.

David expressed his feelings about the ordeal, noting, “I was a little frustrated because we were 12 and 11 and really shouldn’t have done that.”

Their father, Dave Byrne, voiced his discontent, calling it “outrageous” that such an event could occur in their community, and he urged for tougher security measures to prevent similar incidents.

After the robbery, the community rallied around the Byrne siblings, and they reopened their lemonade stand just two days later. The event drew a significant crowd, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and City Councilman Ed Flynn.

Mayor Flynn mentioned that half of the proceeds from the reopened stand would be donated to local organizations focused on preventing gun violence.

Juliette shared her surprise at the turnout, stating, “I didn’t expect so many people to come. It makes me feel really happy.”
