Brothers Raise Funds for Veterans through Lemonade Stand

Two brothers from Minnesota are being recognized as part of a new wave of American patriots after their lemonade stand generated millions for veterans’ charities.

Noah Dingels, 11, and Cole Dingels, 8, hailing from Eden Prairie, first set up their stand five years ago at a local golf tournament organized by a nonprofit called Tee It Up for the Troops.

This organization has events across the country aiming to support veterans returning from conflict. Their mission covers a range of issues, including assistance for PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, suicide prevention, job training, recreational activities, housing, and support for families and caregivers.

Reflecting on their initial efforts, Noah shared, “I thought it was great to meet veterans and give them the money at the end.” Cole chimed in, saying, “Honestly, it felt good.”

Initially, the boys raised $359, which pushed them to further their efforts, eventually raising $60,000 for Tee It Up for the Troops.

“It feels like a big deal and it’s fun to do,” Noah mentioned, adding that they expanded their menu to include candy bars and golf balls, with Snickers becoming a player favorite.

The boys have also gained support from local sponsors and their mother, Angela, remarked on the contagious nature of their fundraising efforts. “The Lemonade Stand has always been about giving back. Each year, the boys do a fantastic job showing their appreciation for veterans,” she said.

The stand provides an avenue for community interaction, with classmates and neighbors regularly dropping by to contribute. “It’s a great opportunity for them to thank the veterans and show their love for our country,” Angela explained.

One veteran involved, Harry Wisdom, a decorated Army helicopter pilot who received the Silver Star for his bravery in Vietnam, even gifted his award as a token of gratitude to the boys for their work.

Tee It Up for the Troops, founded in 2005 and based in Burnsville, Minnesota, has raised over $19 million, directly aiding veterans and their families. Executive director, Chris Larocque, noted that the organization has impacted around 400,000 military families during its 21 years.

Additionally, they host several golf tournaments across the U.S. and an annual REUNION event in Florida that reconnects veterans and their families.

Larocque praised the Dingels for their entrepreneurial spirit, saying, “It’s inspiring to see young people wanting to make a difference.” He believes their efforts carry a significant message, particularly as the nation reflects on its history.

Amid various challenges, he expressed hope, emphasizing how the young Dingels are taking initiative to help their community and veterans. “It’s something special when they recognize a gap and choose to address it,” he concluded.
