Jaylen Brown Embraces Change in Philadelphia
“The Process,” a phrase tied to Philadelphia’s long rebuilding journey, is making a comeback in the city, or so believes Jaylen Brown, the latest addition to the 76ers. Recently traded from the Celtics in a major deal, Brown expressed his belief that this phase is “back to normal.”
“Alright, we’re processing it,” Brown remarked during a livestream on Thursday. “The process is back. It kind of stopped for a while, I’m not really sure how many years it’s been. But now, it’s back, Mom.”
He also reflected on the rivalry that shaped his past views, admitting he had been “programmed” to dislike the 76ers due to their history of competition. “For the last decade, I’ve been programmed to hate Philadelphia. All the historical playoff battles contributed to that mindset. I was, like, ‘The process is messed up,’” Brown shared.
Brown, now a five-time All-Star, was traded to the 76ers alongside Paul George and several draft picks after much speculation regarding his future. He expressed enthusiasm for joining the team, emphasizing he doesn’t want any kind of “special treatment.”
“Philadelphia is a resilient city, a tough one, and I’m genuinely looking forward to it,” he stated. “I don’t want preferential treatment; I aim to earn my keep here.”
During the livestream, he even had a light-hearted moment with his new teammate, VJ Edgecomb, who called in to say hello. “Hey, this is JB from the Stream Gang,” he greeted playfully. Edgecomb quickly acknowledged him, leading to a chuckle from Brown.
At 29, Brown is fresh off the most impressive season of his career, with averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, all while shooting nearly 48% from the field. His performances last season also earned him All-NBA recognition for the second time in his decade-long career.
