Utah Supreme Court rejects Tyler Robinson's appeal

Utah Supreme Court Allows Progress in Charlie Kirk Murder Case

On Thursday, the Utah Supreme Court rejected Tyler Robinson’s effort to appeal a lower court’s decision, which permits the use of cameras and specific hearsay evidence during the trial.

4th District Judge Tony Graf Jr. confirmed that while cameras will be subject to strict guidelines, they may capture the testimonies of crucial witnesses in preliminary hearings.

“The motion for leave to appeal the interlocutory order is denied. The motion to discontinue is deemed null and void,” the order indicated.

Robinson faces accusations of murdering political activist Charlie Kirk at a speaking engagement last September at Utah Valley University (UVU).

If found guilty, he could receive the death penalty.

The preliminary hearing for Robinson is set to start on Monday. Kirk’s parents and widow, Erica Kirk, are expected to be present. This will be the first major court event where the family will participate directly.

Erica has been outspoken about her wish for a swift resolution. In January 2026, she filed a court complaint for a speedy trial against Robinson, referencing Utah’s Crime Victims’ Rights Act.

Furthermore, she advocates for the inclusion of cameras in the courtroom to allow public livestreaming of legal proceedings, emphasizing the importance of transparency in such cases.
