Incident Involving Racial Insults in Santa Clarita
A woman in Santa Clarita was filmed hurling racial slurs at her Asian neighbors during a heated confrontation in the streets. Social media users dubbed her “Karen” after a video showed her making hostile comments.
This elderly woman, who has been identified as Elaine LaForge, confronted another driver near Sheffield Street and Oxford Street, instructing them to leave the country. “Why don’t you go back to Asia? Go back to Asia and ride a rickshaw,” she exclaimed in the footage.
The recorded altercation featured LaForge claiming she was simply driving home when a driver, who later revealed herself as a witness, sped past her and began yelling curses.
She later shared her experience on social media, relaying that LaForge accused her of following her home. “I went past her house because I could tell she was upset; she was acting strangely, like braking in the middle of the road,” she explained.
The same woman also mentioned that LaForge had made gestures mimicking “Asian eyes” before the video recording started. During their exchange, she warned LaForge, saying, “I live in this neighborhood. I have a picture of your license plate.”
Community members reacted strongly to the incident online, expressing their outrage. One individual stated, “No, no, it’s not acceptable. It’s not okay. We’re not doing this.” Another woman expressed her hope that LaForge’s family would address her troubling behavior.
Santa Clarita, noted as the third largest city in L.A. County, is priding itself on its increasing diversity. However, incidents like this remind many locals that there is still work to be done. “We need to improve our communities and understand the impact of racism,” the woman behind the RiseUpSCV Instagram account remarked.
