Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has received notably lower ratings from her WNBA peers compared to fans and media in this year’s All-Star voting.
According to the poll released on Thursday, players ranked her 11th among guards. In contrast, she secured second place in fan voting and third in media voting, landing a starting position for the All-Star Game on July 25 at the United Center.
Fans made up 50% of the total vote, while players and media each contributed 25%. At 24 years old, Clark is achieving a career-high of 21.2 points per game this season, shooting 43% from the field with the Fever.
She will be starting alongside Fever teammates Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, who both received higher ratings from players than Clark did. Overall, Clark’s weighted voting score ranked third, following Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings and Olivia Miles of the Minnesota Lynx.
“They vote her 11th but they guard and foul her just like they did 1st,” commented a fan.
“LOL…I love how those racist black lesbians voted her 11th. This shows how jealous they are!” another user expressed.
The player voting came amid some recent controversies involving Clark. Back in June, many fans questioned her absence from the WNBA’s 30th Anniversary promotional poster, especially considering her impact on the league’s growth in recent years.
“Sweet cheeseballs. This league just continues to be shamed. Do you even realize how absurd it is to exclude Caitlin Clark from this poster? Are you guys on drugs? There aren’t enough words for this,” one user stated.
The player voting followed a high-profile incident where Alyssa Thomas mentioned she received death threats connected to a one-game suspension for hitting Clark during a game. Thomas described the clash as accidental.
Thomas said, “It’s unfortunate that this happened in basketball. A lot of people, including myself, didn’t even know that play happened until after the game. Now we’re being portrayed as thugs. We’re getting death threats. It’s really unacceptable. Things have to change in this league. I’m really tired of it.”
