A fleet of ships passed through New York Harbor on Saturday, marking Independence Day and honoring the Statue of Liberty.
This parade, organized by Sail4th 250, showcased tall ships from around the globe to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, reportedly the largest gathering of such vessels in history.
The procession spanned from the Verrazzano Bridge to the George Washington Bridge early in the morning. A significant display of U.S. and international aircraft, led by the Blue Angels, was also scheduled to perform over the Verrazzano Bridge at 10:15 a.m.
On Friday, over 100 tall ships and naval vessels made their way to the port for the festivities, according to reports.
Video footage displayed a grand parade of ships sailing before the Statue of Liberty, while onlookers enjoyed the spectacle.
Sail4th250 mentioned that in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the largest fleet of tall ships and naval vessels would enter New York Harbor for a presidential review and to salute the Statue of Liberty.
Reflecting on traditions from past celebrations including the 1976 Bicentennial and the 1986 Statue of Liberty festivities, the international fleet will arrive grandly and remain in the nation’s first capital for a week.
It promises to unite seafarers in the common themes of freedom, hope, and opportunity that signify the nation.
Furthermore, Sail4th has an agreement with the U.S. Navy for Fourth of July events in New York and New Jersey. That morning, the Navy will conduct the 7th International Ship Review, a respected ceremony featuring over 53 U.S. and international warships.
This event was anticipated to attract millions celebrating the National Day.
In a statement on Friday, President Trump remarked that “250 years ago, the founders of our great republic gathered in Philadelphia to fulfill their God-given destiny: the freedom and independence of the United States of America.”
“On this glorious 250th anniversary of our independence, we remember that this nation was born in providence, created by heroes, and sustained by generations of freedom-loving patriots,” he added.
