Investigation into Paul Pelosi Following Car Accident
Paul Pelosi, the spouse of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is currently under investigation. Authorities reported on Friday that he crashed into a parked car in Napa County, California, and subsequently left the scene.
The incident took place in Yountville around 2:30 p.m. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office stated that an unoccupied parked vehicle on Yount Street was rear-ended, suffering significant damage. Witnesses mentioned that the driver paused momentarily after the impact before fleeing in a brown convertible.
“Witnesses provided police with details about the direction the vehicle took,” the press release noted. “Later, deputies spotted a car that was parked behind a brown convertible, partly obstructing the road.”
Eventually, investigators identified the driver as the 86-year-old Pelosi. His vehicle was found to have considerable damage on the passenger side. During questioning, he acknowledged hitting something but claimed he was unaware it was another car.
Pelosi stated he kept driving until his vehicle was no longer operable. Investigators have indicated that there is no evidence suggesting alcohol was involved in the incident. He was not arrested, as California law typically mandates misdemeanor charges be present to allow for a warrantless arrest.
Local authorities are considering whether Pelosi should keep his driver’s license. The sheriff’s office confirmed that it will request a driver re-inspection from the California DMV, a standard procedure for older drivers. Meanwhile, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office now holds the entire case file to determine if charges will be filed.
This isn’t the first time Pelosi has garnered attention for a traffic-related issue in Napa County. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to drunk driving after a late-night collision, which resulted in a five-day jail term.
A report from the California Highway Patrol detailed that Pelosi was operating a 2021 Porsche when he pulled onto State Route 29 and collided with a Jeep.
As noted previously, “Speaker’s husband was arrested in Napa County just before midnight and was booked into jail hours later on two charges,” according to the Napa County Criminal Justice Network.
