Cristiano Ronaldo’s Final World Cup Journey

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to play in his last World Cup with the Portuguese national team. He’s already helped Portugal reach the round of 16, and a victory on Monday could propel them even further.

During a press conference in Dallas ahead of Portugal’s match against Spain, Ronaldo expressed his desire for Monday not to be his final game. “That day will come,” he said, reflecting on his retirement from international football. “But to be honest, regardless of the outcome, I’ll leave with a clear conscience. I’ve given everything to this sport. I don’t need it; my life is good, but it’s about passion. I play soccer because I love it… I just want to enjoy every day. And hey, scoring three goals in this World Cup? I can’t be doing that bad, right?”

This decision marks the end of Ronaldo’s illustrious international career, which began back in 2006, coinciding with Portugal’s hosting of the World Cup alongside Spain in 2030.

While he hasn’t yet secured a title, he has made significant contributions, including a penalty that edged Portugal closer to victory. His first-ever World Cup goal came during the Round of 32 against Croatia.

“It was incredible,” Ronaldo said about his World Cup experience, where he netted three goals in total. “It’s more than just what happens on the field. This has been the most memorable World Cup for me, thanks to the passion from the fans. I don’t know why, but this time it felt particularly emotional and enjoyable.”

At 41, Ronaldo also plays for Al Nasr FC in the Saudi Professional League. He has solidified his legacy as one of the all-time greats, becoming the first player to score in six different World Cups during the group stage against Uzbekistan.

As the stakes rise for Portugal, Monday’s match might not just be significant for the team, but could also signify the conclusion of an extraordinary chapter in Ronaldo’s illustrious career on the world stage.
