Jordan Henderson’s Injury Overshadows England’s Victory Over Mexico

England’s joyful moments following their thrilling round of 16 victory against Mexico took an unexpected turn when midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a strange wrist injury while celebrating with fans on Sunday night.

As the crowd cheered and Oasis’ “Wonderwall” played in the background at Estadio Azteca, Henderson attempted to leap over the dasher board but ended up crashing down on the pitch.

A teammate quickly signaled for medical help as Henderson hit the ground. England’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, confirmed that Henderson had indeed been injured during this unusual incident.

“He’s currently in the hospital, which suggests the injuries could be serious,” Tuchel commented. “It feels inappropriate that he’s not here with us tonight. I just don’t understand the whole process.”

Tuchel mentioned he was in the middle of fulfilling media duties when the team doctors informed him that Henderson was taken to a local hospital.

Expressing his mixed emotions, Tuchel stated he felt “very sad” but also proud of his team’s performance.

Harry Kane, who scored England’s third goal that night, addressed American broadcasters about the incident. He mentioned that Henderson “just collapsed there,” though he seemed hopeful regarding Henderson’s condition before Tuchel’s press conference.

There’s still some uncertainty on how long Henderson might be sidelined, especially considering Tuchel’s vague explanation of the injury.

So far at the World Cup, Henderson has only participated in one game, coming on as a substitute for the last six minutes in the group stage win against Panama.

Interestingly, he received a yellow card on Sunday for his actions on the sidelines.
