England beats Mexico to advance to the quarterfinals in a thrilling World Cup match

Jude Bellingham is definitely one of the standout players for England, scoring twice during the World Cup this summer. Harry Kane helped secure a 3-2 victory over Mexico with a penalty in the 60th minute, allowing the Three Lions to advance to the quarter-finals.

This victory was particularly notable as England became the first team to defeat Mexico at the Estadio Azteca since 2013. Back then, Mexico had mounted a comeback against Honduras during the CONCACAF qualifying rounds for the 2014 World Cup.

However, it wasn’t an easy match for England. They had to navigate the challenging conditions at Mexico City’s high-altitude stadium, playing most of the second half with 10 men after a red card.

Next up, the Three Lions will take on Norway in the quarter-finals, following Norway’s earlier win against Brazil at MetLife Stadium.

Bellingham scored his fourth and fifth World Cup goals just two minutes apart. His first came in the 36th minute, giving England an early 1-0 lead, and then he followed up with another in the 38th minute, close range.

Mexico then narrowed the gap before halftime with a free kick from Julián Quiñones in the 42nd minute.

After Jarrell Quansah received a red card in the 54th minute for a reckless tackle, England found themselves at a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the match.

Kane’s penalty in the 60th minute seemed to provide some breathing room for the Three Lions.

Though Raul Jimenez scored for Mexico in the 69th minute, putting pressure on England, the team managed to fend off several attempts as Mexico sought to equalize.
