Concerns About Firearms Training
It’s hard to imagine a scenario worse than someone who isn’t trained to exercise their Second Amendment rights. But a poorly trained instructor might just take the cake.
In a recent incident, a video showcased what could be described as an incredibly reckless approach to firearms training. The response from Massad Ayoob, a recognized expert in self-defense firearms training and president of the Second Amendment Foundation, was straightforward: “Insane.”
The clip, shared by Gun Lovers Club on social media, contains shocking moments. It starts off with a student holding what looks like a Glock pistol, moving to take a firing position. That part seemed normal, but then things took a turn.
The instructor decides to discharge his own semi-automatic pistol, emptying the magazine just a foot away from the student. The student’s reaction seems to scream, “Are you kidding me?”
It’s essential for anyone looking to exercise their Second Amendment rights to seek quality training, perhaps even opting for a less expensive firearm if necessary. Unfortunately, this instructor appeared to be worth much less than what he was compensated.
Effective self-defense training is crucial because unexpected situations can arise. However, this kind of reckless behavior—like firing a gun so close to a student’s head—is far from appropriate training.
This incident highlights a pressing need for the instructor to undergo serious retraining in firearm safety before he should be allowed to teach again.
