College football bowl game New Year’s Day predictions: LSU vs. Wisconsin pick

Lilia Quest

LSU (-10) vs. Wisconsin

The Tigers will be without a Heisman Trophy winner, but the Badgers' unreliable offense has been hit even harder by his absence.

Luke Fickell's first season is sure to end with yet another disappointment and no wins against teams with winning records.

Liberty (+17.5) vs. Oregon

Granted, the Flames played one of the easiest schedules in college football, but this was an undefeated team that averaged more than 40 points and had the potential to clock time in the nation's top rushing attack. It's a huge cushion for the team. Playing against a disappointing playoff-potential team that can't get the most out of their motivation.

Iowa (+8) vs. Tennessee

Kirk Ferentz has won four of his last five bowl appearances and will be ready.

The defense will also give up fewer than 17 points to all but two top-10 opponents (Michigan and Penn State).

Michigan State (-1.5) vs. Alabama

It's impossible to find a better environment or matchup for a college football game.

History is on Nick Saban's side, but he's betting on his lowest scoring offense in 14 years to beat the best defense in the country.

The Wolverines have been the most dominant and consistent team in the nation this season.

The Crimson Tide wouldn't even be here if it weren't for illogical decisions by a ratings-driven committee.

Washington (+4) vs. Texas

This is the day the Huskies finally get some respect.

Under second-year coach Karen DeBoer, Washington has won 20 straight games, including last season's Alamo Bowl against the Longhorns, and has won four games against top 20 teams, earning them the best conference in the nation.

Texas would maintain a close lead in the penalty shootout, but would ultimately fall to the best offense since Oklahoma, which handed the Longhorns their only loss.

Best bet: Pennsylvania, Iowa, Michigan
This season: 111-107-4 (21-23-1) (entered on Tuesday)
Results from 2014-22: 1,150-1,082-25
