The new year got off to a violent start after a man was killed in a knife fight outside a Queens bar early Monday morning and his friend walked away alive. This is the first homicide of 2024 in the Big Apple.
Tsering Wangdu, 29, died Monday night, more than 12 hours after a scuffle broke out at the corner of 76th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, police said.
He and his 30-year-old friend were kicked out of a nearby bar just before 4 a.m. after getting into an argument with another patron who was drinking on New Year's Eve, law enforcement officials said.
Wangdu, a neighbor, was stabbed in the thigh and his friend was slashed in the chest and face, the NYPD said.
The two were rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where Wangdu was pronounced dead later that night.
My friend remains in critical condition.
The unidentified assailant is still on the run and has not been arrested.
