Police said in a news release that officers responding to a call of shots fired around 1 a.m. Monday heard gunshots and found a crowd running from the area and several injured people lying on the road and sidewalk. .
A man and a woman died at the scene, police said. Officials initially said three people were hospitalized, but in an afternoon update they reported eight people were injured. Their conditions were unknown as of Monday evening.
