Starbucks has announced that it will begin accepting reusable cups for drive-thru and mobile ordering in an effort to reduce landfill waste.

The company said in a statement that the measure will take effect Wednesday at all company-operated and participating stores in the U.S. and Canada. We are the first national coffeehouse to offer personal cups for mobile orders.
“While the majority of Starbucks beverages are enjoyed on the go, this milestone presents a huge opportunity for customers to choose reusable options, and Starbucks' commitment to reduce waste by 50 percent by 2030. We support the initiative,” they said. “Starbucks is the only national coffeehouse in the U.S. to offer customers the option to use a personal cup when placing a mobile order, and the first coffee house in Canada to offer mobile ordering for all drinks and sizes. It's a house.”
Customers who bring a “clean personal cup” will also receive 10 cents off drinks, and U.S. Starbucks Rewards members will receive 25 bonus stars.
Patrons ordering in-store must tell the barista that they brought their own cup.
If you go through the drive-thru, the barista will collect your cup and fill it at the pick-up window.
Regarding in-app ordering, you will see a “Customize” button and a “Personalized Cup” section when you arrive at the cafe. The customer hands the cup to the barista at the pick-up area.
Michael Koboli, Starbucks Chief Sustainability Officer, released a statement regarding the new announcement.
“At Starbucks, we envision a future where every drink can be served in a reusable cup,” Kobori said. “We know our customers are passionate about the planet, and from now on, no matter how they order, we're committed to giving more than we take. Now you can join us in our efforts.”
