Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts on ABC's “The View” on Wednesday that Republicans are criticizing abortion access after a federal appeals court ruled that Texas can ban emergency abortions. He said they were “torturing” women by cutting them off.
“So they're condoning forced births, even if it means killing someone, because they're very pro-life,” Goldberg said.
Co-host Alyssa Farrar Griffin said, “If you say you won't allow even the bare minimum of exceptions for rape, incest, and maternal life, you're setting the pro-life cause back. This is harsh and backwards.” Some people have strong beliefs against abortion. We should be able to unite in the idea that there are always exceptions in any situation, at least when the mother's life is at risk. I think.”
Goldberg said, “To me, this just feels like a power play. You want to have absolute control over someone's body, whether it kills the person or not, but if it kills the person… You don't care about killing or not. You don't care about tearing this woman apart. She didn't want an abortion. She wanted a baby. The baby is not viable. You don’t want to go through this, and yet you sit there and let this torture happen.”
She added: “That's what's wrong. You know it and you're torturing someone. Shame on you.”
