Ana Navarro told her co-hosts on ABC's “The View” Friday that Republican presidential candidates former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-South Carolina) and former Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) “We are making a strategic decision not to antagonize racists,” he said. It's part of the base. ”
Mr. Navarro said of Mr. Haley: “If you remember when she first commented on the Civil War and couldn't say anything about slavery, that's not a difficult question, right? If you ask me what caused the Civil War, that's not a difficult question. Trick question. No. The answer is slavery, slavery, slavery.”
she continued. “But Ron DeSantis came out and attacked her for not answering her. And that just a few months ago he was trying to defend the notion that there was a good side to slavery. Let’s remember.”
Co-host Sarah Haynes said: “He didn't condemn. He doubled down.”
Navarro continued, “I don't think what's going on in the Republican Party with Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis is a gaffe or a verbal gaffe. Racists who are part of the base. I think it's a strategic decision not to make them our enemies.”
Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin responded, “I think this was a bad answer, and I think the cleanup was worse than the original answer. I'm not defending Hailey's statements there.”
