ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin told her co-hosts on Friday's “The View” that former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.), a Republican presidential candidate, spoke to Black people during a CNN town hall Thursday. He said he used “extreme tokenism” when he said he had a friend. night.
“I should have said something about slavery right away,” Haley said on CNN. “But growing up in South Carolina, literally in second and third grade, you learn about slavery. When I grow up, I have black friends. It’s been a hot topic.”
“Some of my best friends are black,” co-host Ana Navarro said.
“That's never going to work,” co-host Joy Behar said.
Co-host Sarah Haines said, “And that's true for all minority groups. People do it with the LGBTQ community and fill in the blanks and Jews and everyone do it.”
Hostin said, “Can I do a public service announcement as the black person on the panel?” Non-black people should not say “I have a black friend” when trying to convince someone that they are not racist. ”
She added, “That's extreme tokenism and the fact that you're trying to convince me that you have a black friend just tells me that you don't. That's insulting. In it, she said that even though she is the daughter of Indian immigrants, she doesn't really feel race. That bothered me because Indian culture is a beautiful culture. It's an inclusive culture. It's a strong culture. It's an old culture.”
