Meghan praised her late father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and slammed former President Trump on the third anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
“My father was an American hero. An icon. A patriot who will be remembered throughout history.” Mr. McCain posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “I can't buy a bagel without someone coming up to me and telling me how much they loved him, how much they loved him, and how much they missed him.”
McCain's comments came in response to footage of President Trump mocking injuries suffered by John McCain, who was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam until 1973. McCain was injured in a plane crash and at the hands of prisoners of war, leaving him with a lifelong illness. Including not being able to raise his arms above his head.
In the video, Trump blames John McCain for Obamacare and mocks his disability.
“Obamacare is a disaster, but no one talks about it. You know, if it wasn't for John McCain, we would have gotten it done, but for some reason John McCain couldn't raise his arm that day. Remember when we didn't have one?'' Trump said, gesturing at a campaign event in Iowa. “He was…like…that was the end of it.”
Meghan McCain accused Trump of mocking him, saying, “Trump is a motherfucker who denies the election and won't let his wife campaign with him.”
John McCain served as a senator from Arizona from 1987 until his death in 2018. He served in the House of Representatives and was the Republican candidate against former President Barack Obama in the 2008 election.
