A man suspected of attempting to sexually assault three women was taken into custody in separate attacks in Manhattan on December 31, according to reports. new york daily news.
On Thursday morning, authorities arrested Christopher Marrero, 23, in connection with the New Year's Eve attack. He now faces charges of sexual abuse, attempted sexual abuse and attempted rape, the report said.
As a result, at Friday's arraignment, Mr. Marrero was held on $50,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond.
The first attack occurred in the morning, when Marrero targeted a 21-year-old woman who was riding a train. He apparently stared at her for a long time and then followed her until she transferred to her train and eventually left the Union Square subway station.
Police said the woman was walking when Marrero allegedly grabbed her arm and tried to pull her into a blocked off alley. Sources said the incident occurred in broad daylight. Second report.
However, the woman managed to escape from Marrero and ran away.
Marrero targeted his second victim less than two hours later, around noon. This time, as the 24-year-old woman stepped into the company's bathroom, Marrero immediately barged into the bathroom right behind her. He shoved her face against the door as he tried to rip her pants off.
The woman was able to flee the scene and Marrero ran away. It appears no one tried to stop Marrero after the incident.
Just two hours later, around 2 p.m., Marrero assaulted a third woman. The third victim, a 24-year-old woman, was inside a large apartment complex on East 18th Street and First Avenue in Stuyvesant Town. Near Union Square.
According to the criminal complaint, the man appears to have grabbed the woman from behind again, pushed her against the wall, and then pressed his groin against her buttocks.
The woman screamed and a passerby approached Marrero and the victim.
Marrero reportedly fled before a passerby could engage him.
The New York Daily News reported that the victim was not physically injured in the incident.
It appears this was not Marrero's first crime. Authorities said he had been arrested three times in two weeks in July on charges of assault and mischief.
According to reports, jail records show he is currently facing charges in the Bronx.
It is not clear what punishment Marrero could face if found guilty.
