Rep. Jim Clyburn said in a CNN interview Sunday that he is “very concerned” that Black voters will vote for President Biden in 2024 and said he shared those concerns with the president.
CNN's Jake Tapper asked Clyburn about the Washington Post's coverage of former President Obama and his recent lunch with the president. Obama reportedly expressed concerns about his campaign.
“This comes as President Biden struggles to solidify his support among black voters, including with a trip to South Carolina, which clearly helped Biden win the Democratic nomination. Clearly, black voters helped then-Vice President Biden win the Democratic nomination. How concerned are you about black voters voting for President Biden in November?'' Tapper asked.
“Well, I'm not worried. I'm very worried. I've had a meeting with President Biden, and I don't know. I've seen those reports. And I've had a meeting with President Biden. I even saw one report showing that.'' President Biden and I went with him. And I expressed my concerns to him. I have no problem with the Biden administration and its actions. My problem is that we haven't been able to break through the MAGA wall to get the Biden administration. “I want to tell the people exactly what this president has done,” he responded.

Clyburn cited student loan forgiveness and noted that the Supreme Court had invalidated part of his plan.
“But he looked for another way, and he forgave $132 billion in student loan debt for 3.4 million people. But no one writes about it. No one talks about it. As of yesterday, I'm still hearing from people that we didn't – he didn't keep his promise on student loan debt forgiveness, and he's keeping it. What he said he would do. 80 percent of what they did and continue to do, but people don't focus on that. The only focus is on that 20 percent, rather than what they did to exceed the court's decision. “I was influenced by the court's decision,” Clyburn said.
The Democrat also praised Biden for nominating Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first African American woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
“So this president is keeping his promises, but people keep focusing on one or two things that he didn't get done. No, we're telling voters what we wanted to do, which is John Lewis. 'But we're going to keep working until it's done,' he said.
