A Virginia suspect has been charged with a felony after his wife was shot and killed in Dumfries, police said.
Daniel Okoye Lawson, 24, of Woodbridge, was charged with felony murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was also charged with firing into an occupied vehicle, according to Prince William County police.
The shooting occurred early Saturday evening near Possum Point Road and Leonard Street in Dumfries, authorities said. Lawson's wife, Desire Alexandria Baggs, 24, was taken to a local emergency room, where she later died.
“Officers were initially called to an area hospital, where a 24-year-old woman was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, where she later died,” Prince William County Police said in a Facebook post.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that her husband, later identified as the defendant, took the victim to the hospital after the shooting occurred and provided detectives with the events leading up to the shooting,” the post added. .
Police have not said what Lawson said happened before Bugg was shot.

The police statement continued: “During the investigation of the incident, additional information and the weapon believed to have been used during the shooting were turned over to police.” “Further investigation revealed that the defendant was involved in the incident.”
