Attorney George Conway on CNN's “Anderson Cooper 360°” on Monday called former President Donald Trump “hostages” for his actions at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He called it “morally despicable.”
President Trump said at a campaign rally: “They should release the J6 hostages. They have suffered enough. They should be released. I call them hostages. I call them prisoners. I call them hostages. Free the J6 hostages, Joe. Free them, Joe. It's very easy to do, Joe.”
“I have concerns about the treatment of the hostages on January 6th,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) told NBC News. “We have concerns. We have a role in Parliament to oversee the treatment of prisoners.
“What do you make of the former president's use of the word 'hostage' to refer, first of all, to the people who committed the crimes on January 6th?” Cooper said.
Conway said, “Oh, that's completely obscene. I mean, people who tried to overthrow the government at his orders, people who tried to end America's constitutional democracy, and who were indicted by a federal grand jury for crimes against the United States.” , the idea that people who are being prosecuted would say something like this, that they are hostages, is by definition absurd and morally despicable.”
He added: “The idea that people accept that and he wasn't banished from public life just because he said something like that, and that people like Elise Stefanik will parrot his lies. “This is just another indictment and self-deprecation of the Republican Party.” However, I don't know how low it can go. ”
