The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Margaret Nobel intercepted more than 2,450 pounds of cocaine worth approximately $32.2 million in the Caribbean.
It was dropped off in Miami on Tuesday.
The drugs were seized in international waters in two separate incidents with assistance from Cutter Richard Nixon, Cutter Dauntless, and the Southern Interagency Joint Task Force.
Six suspected smugglers were also taken into custody and now face prosecution in federal court by the Department of Justice.

Colin Weaver said. “Coast Guard members continue to perform the critical homeland and maritime security mission of saving lives and interdicting transnational criminal organizations operating in the Caribbean.”

The Coast Guard said the operation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) designated investigation.
The task force investigates high-level criminal organizations that pose a threat to the United States by identifying, disrupting, and dismantling them using a multi-agency approach that also involves prosecutors.

Maritime and air drug trafficking detection and surveillance is conducted by the Joint Intergovernmental Task Force in Key West, Florida.

The Coast Guard said that if a ban is imminent, the military branch will take over the law enforcement phase to intercept and arrest drug traffickers.
