It's disappointing that Chiefs fans who don't have a Peacock subscription may not be able to watch Saturday's playoff game against the Dolphins, but defensive end Charles Omenihu is trying to do something about it.
The 26-year-old cannot change the one-year deal worth about $110 million the league signed with NBC Universal for game coverage, but it does tie some fans in with free memberships to the streaming service. I'm proposing that.
“Well, Chiefs Kingdom, we saw your comment and we want you all to watch us play…so we’re giving away 3-month Peacock memberships to 90 people! To win! Please reply to this Tweet with your reason for winning. We will choose a winner on Friday!” Omenihu wrote on Tuesday night.
The offer comes two days after the defense expressed shock that Saturday's game would be broadcast exclusively on Peacock, with viewing limited to those using the service.
With exceptions, fans in participating teams' markets will be able to watch the game on their local NBC affiliate.
“It’s insane that we play only Peacock, I won’t lie,” Omenihu first wrote in X on Sunday night.
The NFL has a streaming-only setup similar to Amazon's for “Thursday Night Football,” with exceptions allowed for local markets.
Peacock also exclusively covered the Dec. 23 regular season game between the Bills and Chargers.
The number of streaming services fans are required to use to watch some NFL games is a hot topic among upset football fans.
former Criticized by WFA host Mike Francesa He introduces the league on his podcast.
“This is a joke that the NFL does this with playoff merchandise,” he said on a recent episode. “It's bad enough that they do it in a Thursday night regular season game, or they do it in a Saturday regular season game.
“But to do it in a playoff game is the biggest slap in the face to their national fan base.”
